Why in 2019 do individuals and communities of color in our state still experience such high levels of housing instability and displacement? This session will explore the deep history and current impacts of exclusionary housing and land use policies in Washington State. After tracing the story from early settler colonial theft of Indigenous land in the 19th century, through redlining and segregationist real estate practices in the 20th century, to contemporary exclusionary zoning, gentrification, and suburbanization of poverty, we will then imagine together how we might fight for truly Fair Housing for All in our communities.
